Do you know the dirtiest places in your home?
Pet toys and beds
Pets are cute and cuddly but also leave behind some nasty bacteria on their toys and beds. Pet toys and beds have been found to have staph, yeast, mold, and other bacteria on them. Toys should be laundered on a regular basis on the sanitizing cycle (hottest water setting) in your washer. Beds should be washed as well. If they cannot be washed, then throw it away and buy a new one that can be washed. Wash the water and food bowls regularly too. Bowls will develop mold and other bacteria rather quickly due to the moisture. If your pets jump up on the furniture, don’t forget to vacuum and sanitize these areas. Tooth Brush Holders
Little do most know, one dirty area comes within close proximity to our mouth twice daily. Our tooth brush holder can pickup germs from our tooth brush. Wash your holder with warm soapy water on a regular basis and wipe dry.
Door handles and other frequent points of contact
Studies have shown that door handles and light switches can be loaded with dirty bacteria. Most do not think twice about these places being dirty and for this reason, they are rarely cleaned. Grab your disinfectant spray and wet a rag and wipe down all handles on doors and cabinets. Wipe down the toilet flush handles and sink knobs. Finally, clean your electronic devices, remotes, and device knobs. Lightly wipe down these items with disinfectant and clean screens with a microfiber cloth.
Coffee Pot and Reservoir
Most likely you clean your coffee pot fairly often but not the reservoir as frequent. The reservoir is an enclosed space with moisture and warm temperatures for an extended period of time. This can lead to the buildup of some of the hospital grade bacteria. To clean the parts of your coffee maker, grab a tooth brush and dip it in warm soapy water. Scrub all places that are accessible. For the parts that are not, run a few pots of vinegar and water mixtures to clean these areas. After, run through with plain water to get out the vinegar smell and remnants.
Dish sponges
The #1 nastiest and most dirty thing in your house is the dish sponge or rag that you use to wash your dishes with. Most people do not wash out the sponge or rag after use. This will lead to the buildup of bacteria. Make sure to rinse it out thoroughly and microwave it for 3 minutes. Wait for it to cool off and remove it. The heat will kill all the bacteria on the sponge or rag.
